Singapore Trash Bin – Singapore Smart Trash Bins
In Singapore, you can find a trash bin almost everywhere. They are set up to facilitate waste collection. It is hoped that the availability of trash bins will induce people to think twice before littering. They are not intended to deter people from throwing garbage in the open, but rather, to encourage thoughtful disposal of waste instead of carelessly tossing rubbish wherever they wish. There are also plenty of recycling bins throughout the city. These are for separate collections of recyclables like paper, plastics and metal. These are collected separately from general waste and sent for processing.
From Curbside to Collection: Understanding Singapore’s Trash Bin Systems
A recent pilot for solar-paneled “smart” trash bins has proved successful, industrial property developer JTC putting up more than 40 of the Bigbelly bins around the island. The bins have an internal compactor to crunch rubbish and can handle five times more trash than a regular bin of the same size. They are also connected wirelessly for easy monitoring and management and can send text message alerts when they reach capacity.
The Bigbelly smart bins will be deployed in estates and developments managed by JTC, including Fusionopolis @ one-north, Biopolis @ one-north, and CleanTech One @ Jurong Innovation District. JTC said it is looking into introducing them in other locations if it proves feasible. JTC employees can access the system dashboard from its J-Ops Command Centre to optimise waste collection routines, understand waste patterns and better deploy manpower in efforts to improve productivity and eliminate bin overflows.
